THE RESEARCH ANALYSIS, PRE-PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

GENRE / NARRATIVE / REPRESENTATION
Psychological Thriller
The reason I chose a psychological thriller was because I remember as a child watching movies became a ritual overtime, however as it went on I felt as though it was not that intriguing anymore. I had drained my understanding for simple stories and had started to get bored. It was then when I came across my first psychological thriller, Inception. I couldn't understand it and that made me want to know what was reality and what was not. I myself want to create a sense of uncertainty in every single camera shot, connecting with the viewer and how he perceives them.
My narrative for this film opening would consist of a linear one, since movies that move in a chronological order are easier to captivate the audience and keep them guessing, having alot of time warps would ruin the overall aesthetic of the film.
Throughout this journey I will constantly be looking at these movies as examples such as ,The Joker, showing the affects of ones mind in a beautifully coordinated manner elevating the plot. Shutter Island and Escape room, both keeping you on the edge of your seat at all times. These are the movies that I think are at least worth a watch they keep you thinking throughout and have you doubt your own self. The greatest part of these movies are the conversations you have after you leave the cinema when every is comprehending what they felt and pouring that into words arguing over the littlest of things and all with their own sense of what happened inside.
Keeping these as a referral ill be sure to transform my project into a great blend of crime uncertainty story telling emotions and the thrill of the plot.

WARDROBE
In this project our main character will have a laid back but somewhat composed and well put together
wardrobe consisting of a dark grey shirt and a dark colored hoodie helping him blend in with the surroundings and giving a sense of fear and young rebellion to the viewers. he will have navy blue cargo pants showing his laziness in wearing formal, and being comfortable but being protected from anyone recognizing his body type. Black high tops would show that he has something to hide but is ready for action.
The shots I would be using for this short film would be comprised mainly off close-ups, long shots and medium long shots with sometimes using a medium shot to show the characters body language in a particular scene. Such as this beautiful shot which gets intimate with the viewers from Joker. it portrays certain emotions which words wont be able to convey.
Another example of unpredictability and keeping the viewer on edge would be from the spinning totem scene in inception which is shown at the end it really makes you think and doubt your understanding of the whole movie and if the characters journey was worth it or not to this day I myself am not convinced that the movie really ended like it was shown.
Another clip from the escape room that intrigues me is the ice melting scene as it was completely unpredictable and seemed impossible however it is embedded into my conscience despite being a simple scene another aspect of this would be the fall which further shocks you, this is what I aspire to do with my project.
Some lighting effects i would create are dark and and gloomy and flashing lights in the background bringing a feel of uneasiness and showing the mind of the subject through these shots such as the one in Joker highlighting the character and his ignorance for his surroundings
the makeup in the above picture also sets a staple for directors to know how blending the character in with the environment could result in beautiful cinematic shots such as this.
I would use the writing style Christopher Nolan in inception creating a sense of bubble of thought around the viewer influencing his thinking style and being open ended with the possibilities making the viewers think and be a part of the story and have some sort of interaction.
However the venue I would use would resemble that of shutter island playing with lighting and in a secluded area giving the subject a sense of solidarity and uneasiness in the viewers keeping them engaged and on their toes this would also show the subject vulnerable keeping the viewers thinking.
I would blend the respective ideals shots writing styles and cinematography into one short clip highlighting the strengths and producing something unique.
All in all the shots angles and movements with their respective reasons are as follows,
● Long Shot : The long shot will be used to. further define the situation and the character. This would further paint a picture and the context of what's happening throughout the scene. The lighting and costumes would be most likely revealed in these.
● Medium shot: This would be used in order to show the subtle actions and details of the character, showing the, hoodie representing the youth rebellion culture. This would also show just enough before getting intimate with the character which for this video would not be good as there needs to be a mysterious aura to the subject.
● Extreme closeup shot : This would be taken in order to reveal the danger and the surprise the only moment we get intimate with the subject showing his vulnerability and fear, this is going to add some variety and pop to the video.
● High Angle Camera : The start will consist of a high angle camera shot depicting the weakness in the murderer even though he'll be at power then also creating a unique and appealing to the eyes composition.
● Dolly out : A light dolly out movement will be shown in order to reveal the setting to the viewers subtly hinting towards the upcoming scene.
Moreover the Sounds used in the movie would consist of,
■ Digetic Sound : This will be the main type of sounds used in our video, from the sound of water from the tap running to the stomping of the feet in scene 2.
■ Contrapunctual Sound : This will be used to
show the intensity of the scene as well as the slow but intense buildup creating a sense of fear and restlessness amongst the viewers.
Furthermore the types of editing that this will consist of as are follows,
★ Jump cut : This would be the main form of editing used since the video will be pretty fast paced, this would compliment the setting amazingly in my opinion.
★ Cutting on action : Another very important editing trick used here is cutting on action this is because since it's a thriller having a few twists and turns would keep the audience intrigued and portray the idea much more clearly.
★ The fade out transition : This would be used to indicate the end since the fading in of the blackness would indicate the last full capacity of a scene.
The character in the video will be put in the middle of the camera grid, being the main subject of the focus this is the final composition as a rack focus on the grid the background will host a dead body other then that no composition will be used.
Color Pallete
This color Pallette beautifully reflects the theme for my movie, with a dark navy blue (201E50) representing the night, the brown (635C51) would be representing the clothing used in this movie with dark brownish themes, the light blue (ADA8B6) will represent the police costumes reflecting the bright colors of hope, along with the mustard (EDB86B) color for the car headlights.
Finally (E5B769) yellow will represent the inside.

Research on Schizophrenia:
The movie I show is based on a schizophrenic patient and how he breaks from reality after committing a murder and falls victim to the thought that someone is now after him as well.
Schizophrenia is a very severe mental health illness that is diagnosed via the ICD-11.
What's the ICD-11?
The ICD-11 is the 11th edition of the international Classification of diseases. This is the global standard for coding health information and includes both physical and mental health disorders. It was developed and is updated by the world health organisation or WHO.
The 4 core symptoms aka Positive Symptoms,
- Persistent delusions
- Persistent hallucinations
- Thought Disorder
- Experiences of Influence
4 other symptoms aka negative symptoms,
- Avolition (lack of motivation)
- Flattened affect
- Impaired Cognitive Function
- Catatonia (lack of movement and speech)
Our character falls victim to, persistent delusions and hallucinations.
The delusion that someone will hurt him is expressed through the hallucination he faces in the movie.
Now there are multiple types of delusions in schizophrenia. There is persecutory delusion, grandiose delusion and there is delusion of reference.
Our character over here has.
Persecutory delusion;
This is a strongly held belief that you are in danger or that you are being conspired against and that others are pursuing you to try to do you harm.
He faces Persecutery Ideations, causing him to spiral out of control.
Schizophrenia cannot be cured however it can be kept under control through drugs and therapy.
Down below I have provided a personality board that will clear up the physical and mental problems our character faces.
TREATMENT
In order to cure schizophrenia, there are multiple different ways There are biochemical treatments, typical and atypical anti psychotics. Typical antipsychotics are also referred to as first generation, developed the 1950s. An example is chloroprosin, they work by reducing the effects of dopamine and therefore reducing the positive symptoms of schizophrenia schedule.
Schizophrenic patients have a high dosage of dopamine in their brain. However, no one knows what its link to schizophrenia is. Atypical anti-psychotics, which were developed in the 1990s, affect dopamine levels as well. In order to reduce both and positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia.
Other forms of therapy include cbt or cognitive behavioural therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy in approach to the treatment of mental health disorders, which incorporates principles of both the cognitive and behaviourist approaches to psychology. It departs from the behaviours strict focus on observable behaviour in order to recognise the influence of invisible cognitive processes on learning.
Other forms of therapy include electro-convulsive therapy when where a patient is given rlectric shocks and self-induced seizures, which is the treatment.
These range from 6 to 12 sessions and are very controversial since they caused very bad side effects. For example, lasting neurological damage or even death as well as memory loss.

COMING UP WITH THE IDEA
I came up with the idea on a random rainy day, I woke up from a very lucid dream and I didn't know what was going on, I then tried to recompense it into a film, one that I couldn't understand clearly at all it needed a certain perspective to view it hence I went with the idea incorporating it into a rough script which I then with the help help of my friends, a few books and a documentary on Schizophrenia and lucid dreaming did I come up withe official script for my film, then I went forward to write a one Liner and emboss that into my rough storyboarding which I later perfected according to my preferences and at last I finally produced the film opening.
